Pet Ultrasound Imaging

At St George Vets, we use ultrasound as a non-invasive, painless diagnostic tool to examine the internal structures of your pet in real time. This advanced imaging technique plays a vital role in helping us accurately diagnose a range of health conditions, without the need for surgery or more invasive procedures.

Ultrasound uses high-frequency sound waves to create detailed images of your pet’s internal organs and soft tissues. It’s particularly useful for assessing the abdomen, heart, liver, kidneys, bladder, reproductive organs, and intestines, as well as for identifying fluid buildup, masses, or abnormal organ function.

When Is an Ultrasound Recommended?

Ultrasound may be recommended if your pet is showing signs such as:

  • Vomiting or diarrhoea
  • Abdominal swelling or discomfort
  • Difficulty urinating
  • Unexplained weight loss
  • Changes in appetite or energy
  • Heart murmurs or suspected cardiac disease

It’s also commonly used to monitor pregnancies, guide biopsy procedures, or evaluate ongoing conditions such as chronic kidney or liver disease.

Specialist Ultrasound Services Available

Our team performs many ultrasounds in-house as part of routine diagnostic care. However, when more complex imaging or interpretation is needed, we can arrange for a visiting ultrasound specialist to perform the scan right here at our clinic. This ensures your pet receives high-level expertise without the stress of referral or travel.

Gentle, Stress-Free Imaging

Ultrasound is completely painless and most pets tolerate the procedure well. In some cases, mild sedation may be used to help keep your pet calm and still during the scan. Our team is experienced in providing gentle care to ensure your pet feels safe and comfortable throughout the process.

If your pet has been recommended for an ultrasound or you’re concerned about their health, don’t hesitate to get in touch. We’re here to help with expert diagnostics and compassionate care.
