Pet X-rays (Radiology Services)

At St George Vets, we offer onsite digital radiology services, allowing us to quickly and accurately diagnose a wide range of health conditions. Our state-of-the-art digital X-ray equipment delivers clear, high-resolution images, helping our team make informed decisions about your pet’s care without delay.

If your pet is unwell or has suffered an injury, X-rays are often one of the first tools we use to investigate further. Having this technology in-house means we can perform imaging on the same day, without needing to refer you to a specialist centre.

What Can X-rays Detect?

X-rays are a non-invasive way to visualise:

  • Bones and joints (e.g. fractures, dislocations, arthritis)
  • Organs such as the heart, lungs, liver, and intestines
  • Foreign objects (e.g. ingested items, blockages)
  • Tumours or abnormal growths
  • Dental issues or jaw problems

They are a valuable tool in diagnosing injuries, illnesses, and unexplained symptoms in both dogs and cats.

What to Expect During an X-ray

The X-ray procedure is safe and quick. Your pet will be gently positioned on a padded table while the imaging is taken. In some cases, especially for very detailed or multiple images, light sedation may be required to keep your pet calm and still.

Once the images are captured, they are reviewed immediately by our veterinarians. This fast turnaround helps us move quickly to the next step, whether it’s further testing, treatment, or surgery.

Is It Safe?

X-rays involve a small amount of radiation, but the risk is very low, especially when balanced against the diagnostic benefits. At SGV, we take all necessary precautions to minimise your pet’s exposure, including using lead shielding and limiting repeat imaging.

If your pet needs an X-ray, you can trust our experienced team to provide gentle, efficient care from start to finish. Contact us today to learn more or to book an appointment.
